What's up - Historical parade and display of the Sacred Belt

Published on Aug. 26, 2022

For over eight centuries Prato has been celebrating the 8th of September, the day of the nativity of the Virgin Mary.
In a chapel of the Cathedral the Sacred Belt of Mary is preserved and every year is honored with the Historical Parade.

The parade is opened by the Armati di Città and the Corps of Municipal Valets, after which more than five hundred figures from all over Italy parade, with their ancient costumes and entertainments, cross the streets of the center up to the Cathedral square.

The Bishop and the Mayor, after having witnessed the parade from the churchyard of the Cathedral, enter it for the display: the most solemn religious moment of the day. At the end of the display, the celebrations continue in the square.
